Morena Khadi

Morena Khadi

Famous for its unique temples and bandits, Morena is also the land of khadi weaving. The handwoven and hand spun carpets, dhurries, mats, and rugs are a specialty of this khadi cluster.

The craft of carpet weaving requires a high degree of skill and dexterity. The typical features of these bright, soft and wrinkle-free carpets are their border design, color scheme, symmetry, and motifs.

Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram (MGSA) has kept Gandhi's khadi relevant in the last four decades by promoting the use of charkhas and looms to weave fabric.

Situated in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, MGSA has been working closely with KhaDigi and providing direct employment to 250 spinners and 8 weavers especially women from the families of dacoits.

Khadi Gram Udyog (KGU) is known for propagating the use of hand-woven and home-spun fabrics for decades now. KhaDigi has tied hands with KGU to crescendo the khadi usage in today's fashion world.

Together the two organizations support many weavers and artisans -master weaver Parvez Khan is one among them. He along with nearly 300 artisans are keeping the art of Khadi alive and depended on it for their bread and butter.

They produce various handwoven and handspun khadi products such as sarees, dress material, durries, carpets, and much more.
